A way to a happy heart

What did the title first make you think of? A happy person? Or, less probably, the hardest working organ keeping well? Did you know that a happy person is more likely to have a healthy heart? Yes, the key to a healthy heart is not expensive machines, loads of exercise or even diet books; the key is low levels of stress. When we suffer from stress, the body, under influence of the brain, comes under pressure, and the heart in turn has a tougher time. Many studies have shown that a peaceful, calm and happy person is very much less likely to fall victim to heart disease. While the heart will suffer from bad lifestyle practices, a little genuine smile can take you a long way on the road to keeping healthy. As the popular saying goes, we only get the gift of life once, so we may as well take full advantage of it! In a healthy way, that is. But given the challenges of every day life, it is very difficult to get that ideal state of mind. Here are some simple ways of making the heart, in both senses of the word, happy.

Small Pleasures

I have often stopped to admire the beauty of childhood. There really is nothing like it. Sadly though, as we grow up, we keep losing that childishness, and the bliss that comes with it. Instead of putting on a personality and being respectable all the time, try holding on to a little of that childishness. A little childishness can do wonders in fighting stress. It makes you feel, even it be just for the moment, that all is well. The positive repercussions of that feeling in the body go on for hours. It is very important to have a time of the day for yourself, when you can think freely and have a few undisturbed moments of bliss. Take a break from running at the breakneck speed of life. Arrange your living space in such a way as to soothe your mind. Or perhaps you can read a book or practice yoga. And if you are able, think about having your very own spa, for a relaxation time exclusively your own and at the comfort of your own home. You see, relaxation can reduce the risk of heart disease by half.

Stress

Do you know what causes stress? A bad time at the office? Failing to meet a deadline? Actually, what causes stress is our doubt. It is very important to believe in our own selves, to be confident that things will turn out well, and up to a certain measure, to believe in others too. Studies indicate that having a positive attitude can increase your lifespan. The point is, enjoying your life. Have time for yourself, and for your loved ones. Now and then, have a rocking time with them. And as for wine, a glass of red can actually help your heart, because moderate amounts of alcohol can help you feel relaxed. Perhaps that is why people who enjoy a little alcohol daily have fewer health problems than people who have too much, or people who do not.

Cheers to a happy heart!
