HairMax Laser Comb – Does It Work?
A fairly recent product on the market is called the HairMax Laser Comb. This product is based on laser light therapy built into a brush type device. It is designed to increase circulation and promote natural activity in the follicles within the scalp.
Initial reviews of the product show that, while it isn’t quite as good as minoxidil or finasteride, it does have its benefits. In one study, 45% of the people using it consistently showed that it lessened hair loss within eight weeks. Furthermore, 90% saw some improvement after sixteen weeks of consistent use.
In May 2009, a peer review journal called Clinical Drug Investigation published the results of clinical trials that showed the HairMax Laser Comb was safe and effective for use according to the FDA. This cleared the way for the product to be marketed in the United States as an aide in promoting hair growth among men experiencing hair loss.
The clinical tests included macro-images of scalp areas treated with the product, along with hair counts generated by computerized units. This information was backed up by evaluations of the product from both the users of the HairMax LaserComb and physicians. The tests concluded that the product is both effective and harmless to the user when utilized in the treatment of certain kinds of hair loss.
The controlled study used a combination of four different centers, double blind testing and placebo devices to conduct the evaluation of the treatment. Results were calculated based on approved methods of the Investigational Review Board or IRB. They were carried out per the Standard of Good Clinical Practices. Subjects were all classified as having a IIA to V level of hair loss based on the Male Classification System of Hair Loss. The Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale was required to be I through IV only. During the six month study, it was found that the men using the HairMax LaserComb showed a considerable increase in hair thickness, while those who had been given a placebo device for the study showed no change in level of hair loss.

It is believed that the red laser light given off by the HairMax LaserComb may increase human molecules known as ATP. As a result, the ATP promotes an increase in metabolism and cell production. This provides the necessary energy and matter that hair follicles require to become healthy and produce thicker, stronger hair. With the increase in health of the hair follicles, the hair that is shed is replaced with a more lively and durable hair shaft.
The HairMax LaserComb is equipped with special patented teeth that allow it to part hairs on the scalp and provide a clear path for the laser light to penetrate the scalp and treat individual hair follicles. It taunts ease of use as a selling point, requiring only 10 or 15 minutes for three days each week for treatment. It can be used at home at any time convenient to the user and requires no waiting time between treatments and other activities such as showering or styling of the hair.
The HairMax LaserComb’s biggest drawback is the hefty $500 plus price tag. However, it does come with a two year warranty and money back guarantee that gives you twenty weeks to decide if it is working for you. Such premium features as an auto shutdown, a built in rechargeable lithium battery and other convenient bells and whistles may make the price not seem as formidable for those who want to try it without the risk of being stuck with a product that doesn’t work for them.
