How Can a Firm Mattress Benefit Your Health?
There are so many choices when it comes to mattresses, but if you want the mattress to not only give you a restful night but benefit your health as well, then choose a firm mattress. Mattresses do not come cheap, especially the branded ones, so if you’re going to shell out cash for a new one, then be sure that it will give you exactly what you need.
Below are the many benefits that a firm mattress can give you.
Deeper and More Restful Sleep

By: Tim Rodenberg
Contrary to what we believe, soft mattresses cannot provide us a relaxing sleep. This is because most soft mattresses tend to be lumpy. Also, they tend to sag that, before we know it, we’re being forced into an uncomfortable position when we’re sleeping.
Firm mattresses, on the other hand, are known for the comfort it gives. It does not easily sag in areas most used, and it provides a good support to our body, especially the spine, when we’re sleeping.
If you have a bed partner, firm mattresses are the best choice simply because you’re not going to roll towards the center of the mattress when both of you are in bed. You don’t have to continuously adjust your body to look for a comfortable position. Because of these, you’re given a deeper and more restful sleep.
Better Sleep, Better Health
The more restful your sleep is, the more relaxed and rested your body becomes. After all, it is when we are sleeping that our cells rejuvenate themselves. Upon waking up after a long and restful sleep, we feel more rejuvenated and more energetic to face the day’s challenges.
A person who does not get enough sleep suffers from a lot of symptoms. For one, you feel more tired and exhausted each day that you don’t get enough sleep. You don’t have the energy to face the day, and you feel cranky, irritable, and more stressed. Two, sleep deprivation also affects one’s memory and concentration. Your brain lacks rest so it’s not functioning that well, giving you headaches, memory problems, inability to concentrate, etc. If you continue to be deprived of a good night’s sleep, it will soon affect your cognitive abilities. Three, because your body isn’t getting enough rest, you’re more susceptible to diseases and illnesses such as cold, flu, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, etc.
With a firm mattress though, you’ll be more comfortable, and you’re spine will be better supported in the proper alignment. You won’t have to wake up now and again to adjust your cramped and uncomfortable position.
Back Problem and Bedsore Prevention
Firm mattress can also prevent back problems. As mentioned earlier, firm mattresses can better support your neck and back when you’re sleeping. It conforms to your body, so the curves are better supported and the pressure points are relieved.
Because your spine is kept in the proper alignment when you’re sleeping, you’re less prone to back problems such as scoliosis and low back strain. It will also relieve pressure points, so you’re less prone to bedsores. Bedsores, as you know, are one of the biggest problems of people who are confined to bed and have problems with mobility.
